November 2021

Updates

As we enter into the final weeks of 2021, we wanted to pass along an update as the Board of Directors has been busy of late.

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday 2021 is coming up in two weeks.An anonymous donor has generously committed to a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,000 this year! As you consider supporting your favorite philanthropic groups this year, please consider making a donation to Becky's Warriors. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Giving Tuesday was born and incubated at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. Giving Tuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.

Ways We are Helping

As we know, cancer doesn't discriminate and it doesn't take a day off.  We learned this firsthand as we went through the early days of COVID19 and we continue to see this even through the delta variant.

Over the past several months, we've been able to help two families that have been affected by cancer. One family, we've helped previously and they continue to fight through a battle with brain cancer. The other grant recipient is a current Marian Catholic student. She has had to deal with the unfathomable loss of both of her parents in the past several years due to cancer.  We are so privileged to be in the position to help her continue  her path at Marian.

Finally, we are in early discussions to help a family that is fighting colorectal cancer.  We will keep you posted, but this is an example of someone who had to forego elective procedures during the pandemic.

University of Iowa Partnership

Ryan Dee is cousins with Tracy VanderLuitgaren's; he's a student at the University of Iowa. He's taking a course that focuses on leadership in non-profits and philanthropy.  Part of the coursework is to engage and work with local/regional non-profits and we were excited to learn more about the opportunity.  We are so thankful for Ryan - he reached out to see if we might have an interest in what they do.

The class identifies community partners, working with them over the course of a semester to help with, among other things:

* Social media best practices

* IT audits

* Branding continuity and marketing

Our team has met with the class a couple of times, explained our strengths and weaknesses, and now the group of six students is working on a strategic plan for Becky's Warriors. We are slated to reconvene in December and are excited to hear the students' feedback! Thanks for thinking of us, Ryan, and thank you all for your continued support of Becky's Warriors!

Sincerely, Amy, Megan, Missy, Tammie, Tracy, Jimmy, Joe, Paul
